HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. — Seven people were wounded Saturday night following a shooting near the popular Coligny Beach area on Hilton Head Island, prompting a major law enforcement response and leading to the arrest of four suspects.
According to the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred shortly after 8:20 p.m. when the county’s communications center received multiple 911 calls reporting gunfire near the public beach. Deputies who were already assigned to the area responded immediately, while additional law enforcement personnel were dispatched to assist.
Investigators determined that the violence stemmed from a confrontation between two groups gathered on the beach. Authorities say the dispute escalated into a physical altercation before multiple shots were fired. Following the gunfire, those involved reportedly fled the scene, leaving behind a chaotic and frightening situation for beachgoers and nearby visitors.
Emergency medical personnel responded quickly and transported seven victims suffering from gunshot wounds to several area hospitals. Officials reported that all injuries were considered non-life-threatening, and the victims are expected to recover.
Following an investigation, authorities arrested four individuals in connection with the shooting. The sheriff’s office identified them as Jayden Hawes, 18, who faces charges including attempted murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, and aggravated breach of peace. Three juveniles were also arrested: Marcello Royal, 17, and Quazeir Davis, 17, who each face charges of attempted murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, unlawful possession of a weapon, and aggravated breach of peace. Christopher Capers, 17, was charged as an accessory after the fact.
The incident has raised concerns among residents and visitors about public safety in one of Hilton Head’s most popular tourist destinations. Authorities have emphasized that the investigation remains active and are continuing to review evidence and witness statements.
